FACE LIFT

What is Face Lift Surgery?

A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a procedure in cosmetic surgery that aims to give a more youthful appearance to the face.
It reshapes the lower half of the face by removing excess facial skin.
Rhytidectomy can tighten loose, hanging skin around the jaw line.

Ideal Candidates

Candidates for facelift surgery would like to address signs of aging in the mid face. Additionally, it is important that patients are in good health and have realistic expectations before undergoing facelift surgery. Facelift surgery can correct facial imperfections that include:

  • Skin laxity
  • Jowls
  • Lack of jawline definition
  • Displaced facial fat
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Marionette lines

Surgical options

During a face-lift, a flap of skin on each side of the face is pulled back, and tissues below the skin are surgically altered to return the contour of the face to a more youthful shape. Before the flap is sutured closed, excess skin is removed.
The three most common incision techniques are:

The “full” facelift for rejuvenating the face, jowls and neck including fat sculpting, lifting and repositioning of muscle and deeper tissues, and skin trimming.

For limited rejuvenation around the eyes and mouth including nasolabial folds and other deep creases.

Concentrates on jowls, loose skin on the neck and fat under the chin.
In all three methods, incisions are closed with stitches or tissue glue. Scars are hidden in the hairline and naturally contour the face.

A face-lift can give your face and neck a more youthful appearance. Face-lift results are not permanent. With age, the facial skin may begin to droop again. In general, a face-lift can be expected to last 10 years.

Patients can expect mild bruising, swelling, and discomfort following their facelift surgery. Any pain can be managed with medication as prescribed by Dr. Tarek Raief. Side effects should subside considerably during the first few days of recovery.
